If you can pry yourself away from the wealth of facilities and activities at the Acapulco Resort, North Cyprus has an abundance of historical sites and natural wonders to explore. We recommend hiring a car to explore further afield, however, there are sites to explore close to the hotel such as the ancient site of Avrysi which is located at the eastern end of Acapulco’s beach. These intriguing houses date back to 4000 and 3000BC and were built by ancient settlers from a district in Anatolia called Kilikya. They are slowly crumbling away now but you can still see some of the walls in the man-made or naturally-formed hollows.

Also, definitely worth a visit is Alagadi Beach also known as Turtle Beach because of the loggerhead and green turtles that nest there. It is around 10 minutes drive from the hotel, just turn left out of the hotel and follow the road until you see the signs for Alagadi Turtle Beach Project. Pass St. Kathleen’s Restaurant and go over the small bridge. Follow the rough track past a farm and through the sand dunes to a large sandy bay. Speak to your representative at the hotel, as they may be able to book you onto one of the organised tours where you can spend a night watching the turtles lay their eggs or the young ones hatching and making their way to the sea.
