There is no doubt that hiring a car in North Cyprus is the easiest way to get around and explore this beautiful part of the island. Car hire in North Cyprus is very affordable and allows you a degree of independence. It is very easy to get around; the condition of roads are generally very good and driving is on the left side in North Cyprus. Car hire is best pre-booked in high season, otherwise it is impossible to guarantee that you will be able to book the car of your choice.

Although public transport is fine along the main routes into towns such as Kyrenia, it is only by hiring a car in North Cyprus that you will be able to visit areas such as the beautiful, unspoiled Karpas Peninsula, with its rugged scenery and pristine beaches.

North Cyprus car hire specifications and regulations:

• North Cyprus hire cars are usually right-hand drive so you need to make a specific request for a left hand drive car if required.
• If you have a preference, then please state at the time of booking whether you would like a manual or automatic hire car in North Cyprus.
• Although speed limits are shown as kilometres per hour, please note that some hire cars in North Cyprus are calibrated in mph.
• To hire a car in North Cyprus you must be over 21 and have a full current driving licence. Terms and Conditions for renting a car in North Cyprus:
• Prices do not include collision damage waiver (CDW) which is an extra £3 per day.
• The price provided is for one driver but additional drivers can be added for an extra £3 per day.
• If you have booked a package holiday, transfers are included from the airport to your hotel and you may choose to pick up and drop off your car at your hotel.
• The minimum booking for a car hire is 3 days for pickup and drop off at your hotel.
• The minimum booking for a car hire in North Cyprus is 7 days if you want to pick up and drop off your hire car at the airport. Shorter duration's may incur an additional charge.
• Car hire in North Cyprus is billed per 24 hour period. So if, for example, you are arriving in North Cyprus late at night on a package holiday, it is more cost-effective to book your hire car the following morning. We usually arrange for hire cars to be picked up and dropped off around 10 AM unless you request a specific time. Please bear in mind that specific times cannot be guaranteed.

Driving a hire car in North Cyprus is similar to the UK – speed limits are 100 kph on motorways and 50 kph in town. The use of speed cameras is wide-spread and there are significant fines for speeding. Seat belts must be worn by drivers and passengers in the front seat. Driving your hired car in North Cyprus whilst under the influence of alcohol is illegal and not tolerated. If you fail a breath test then you may well find yourself spending the night in the local police cells.

For some of the more remote areas such as the Karpaz Peninsula, car hire is essential and great if you want to explore the island off the beaten track. Many different cars are available from small and compact to Jeeps and people-carriers.
